Microsoft Certified IT Professional – Server Administrator in Virginia
The MCITP-SA seems like a new certification to many people because just recently its name has become recognizable, but the truth is, it’s not a new certification.
Towards the beginning of 2008 Microsoft released their Server 2008 product and with this, they sent out the window one of the most recognizable certifications to ever hit the IT cert market, the MCSE (and MCSA). With the Server 2008 launch Microsoft totally revamped their offerings of certifications. A completely new structure to their certs was lead by varying categories that separated sys admins from database professionals and so on. The certifications also received alterations which allowed the higher level system admins to focus on the core functions that were important in their environment. With this, the MCITP-SA was born, essentially as the new MCSE, but with less of the lower level stuff and more sys admin function.
The MCITP-SA is a cert that requires three exams, 70-640, 70-642 and 70-646. Each of these exams contain higher level material that is essential to the role of a systems administrator in a Microsoft environment. Unlike the MCSE, this time Microsoft is expecting that you already have desktop support experience, so the client piece (XP, Vista, 7) has been removed.
